PRN of Kansas is participating in a research study evaluating low-dose methotrexate (LDM) which is a widely used anti-inflammatory drug taken by millions of older individuals who have severe arthritis. LDM has been in wide clinical use for nearly 40 years, and doctors have noticed that people with arthritis taking LDM seem to have lower rates of heart disease. However, it is not known if LDM will prevent heart attacks and stroke among people who do not have arthritis, but have had a prior heart attack.
You may be eligible to participate in CIRT if you have had a heart attack in the past 5 years and you have been diagnosed with either diabetes or a condition called “metabolic syndrome” which puts you at high risk for developing diabetes.
